The Future Is Electric!

When the Automobiles were invented, we would have never imagined that it would possess us like this; capturing our Dreams and Imaginations. And ever since, we are used to the Music of Fuel powered Engines and their sheer Flaming Beauty. But now, how do we imagine them without that sound? It was difficult to imagine or even accept. However, thanks to Formula E and Moto E, we saw what those Electric Racing Machines could do. And Darn, do they give us an Ear-gasm, a different one though.

Furthermore, as we move towards the conservative Future and strive towards greener, we are seeing Automotive companies in a huge rush to develop electric vehicles in India. Likewise, after the declaration of Budget 2019 cleared the aim of the government. Which is “To encourage customers to make a switch from ICE vehicles to EVs”. Reduction in Customs’ duty on Lithium-Ion cells will help the local manufacturers in scaling up their production, which will further reduce the overall upfront cost of electric vehicles in India. Government’s continuous emphasis on FAME II Initiative and strengthening of EV infrastructure will definitely encourage manufacturers to further invest in the ecosystem thereby lowering both crude oil imports and air pollution leading to a cleaner and greener future.

Consequently, the EVs cover the whole spectrum of the Automobile Industry. Every segment has started having an electric model, be it Motorcycles, Bicycles, Buses, Cars, Commercial vehicles and what not. Since that is what the Future looks like, let us see some of the few EVs we can get our hands on :

Charging Infrastructure:

With whole lot of enthusiasm every manufacturer is trying make best futuristic electric vehicles in India. The major challenge here when it comes to electric vehicles is the Charging infrastructures. Well, no dream is too big and no challenge is too great. What we want for our future is never beyond our reach.

Initiatives have been taken to set up community Charging stations, as in the case of PlugIn India facilitated Charging stations. Some of the news reports have indicated about plans to provide Solar-powered Charging points at the existing fuel stations of the country.

Toughest challenge for Charging infrastructure is in terms of service integration for India which is currently at implementation of Level-2 Charging at public reach. The Charging time poses a serious problem for a normal AC Charging as it ranges from 6 to 8 hours, whereas for fast DC Charging the cost is pretty high.

Ather Energy launched its Charging infrastructure service in Bangalore called Ather Grid on 22nd May 2018.

Below is the list of companies that are involved in setting up EV Charging stations in India:

  • ECOYAN
  • Tata Motors
  • Ather Grid
  • Exicom
  • Delta Electronics
  • ABB
  • Fortum India
  • Magenta Power
  • Zevpoint e-mobility
  • EVCHARZ
  • Midgard Electric
  • EESL
  • EV Motors
  • Powerlogixtech

The world is quickly adopting to electric vehicles and in next couple of decades, EVs will be the mainstream than Fuel-Powered vehicles. Most of automotive manufacturers are now devoting a large amount of their resources towards the research and development of electric vehicles. As environmental consciousness, increasing pressure, lessons from past failures are increasing and along-with that the local, regional, and Government support is growing; Hence the opportunities for EVs is growing in tandem as well. Maybe sooner than we anticipate or maybe later than we hope, one thing is inevitable : The Future Is Electric!
